The Photography
Three decades. Thousand of miles. One quiet thread running through all
of it.
These photographs were made on back roads and mountain ridgelines, beside rivers and desert canyons, at the edge of marshes and at the top of passes. They began as an attempt to capture beauty. They became something else entirely — a record of paying attention, and of what paying attention can reveal.
The images here are organized by theme — the same themes that run through A Gentle Spirit Within. Browse them slowly. They were made that way.
Light
Every photographer chases light. After thirty years I began to wonder if it was chasing me too.

The Promise of Tomorrow
Franconia Knotch, New Hampshire
A sunset that asked a question I wasn’t ready to answer. I went back the next morning still thinking about it.

A Tree in the Fog
Duck River, Tennessee
Understanding often comes later, quietly, like fog lifting from a valley.

Melting Light
Onondaga Lake, New York
It felt as though I had been tapped on the shoulder and told to look here.
Water
Water doesn’t ask permission to find its way. It moves over, around, and through – patient in a way I am still learning from.

Flowing Cascades
Watkins Glen, New York
Three tiers of water wearing stone into smoothness over centuries. Patience made visible.

The Rock
Fernandina Beach, Florida
Be the Rock. Let the rest move through you.

Autumn Tree in Lake
Lake Seminole, Georgia
Someday I would sit beside still waters and let God remind me who I am.
Stillness
Most of us move too fast to notice. These are the places that made me stop.

Sun Setting over Willow Beach
Willow Beach, Arkansas
The lake gave back the sky without asking. I stayed until I couldn’t tell which was which.

Francis Pond Sunrise
Oswego County, New York
I stayed longer then I planned because the world did not seem to need me to hurry, and for once, I believed that.

Lake Abanakee Colors
Adirondacks, New York
To look into still water is to see more than a reflection. It is to be returned, briefly, to yourself.
Seasons
Each season asks a different question. I am still working through the answers.

Autumn at Lake Abanakee
Adirondacks, New York
The Adironacks in October. Every Year the color is a surprise.

Melting Light
Onondaga Lake, New York
Ten minutes of blue that no paint has ever quite captured. The ice held the sky gently.

Flowing Cascades
Watkins Glen, New York
Late summer light in the gorge – green and ancient unhurried.

In the Trees
Hardridge Creek, Alabama
His Love for the smallest details, if we take the time to look.
There is more where these came from.
