Many Know of Me

Many Know of Me, but Few Truly Know Me

This morning, I woke with a single, quiet thought: Many people know of me, but very few truly know me.

Maybe you’ve felt that too. People wave, smile, and say hello, but they only ever touch the surface of who you are. As I sat with that thought, something shifted. I realized this wasn’t just about me. It was about God, and about how many of us know of Him but never come to truly know Him.

What changed wasn’t dramatic—just a slow realization that God had been with me all along. I had simply been unaware.

Here are a few of the quiet moments that showed me that.

Roots

In the Texas Hill Country, drought had left the bluebonnets I’d come to photograph sparse and disappointing. Driving on, I quietly asked God for guidance. Days later, on a dusty trail in Guadalupe State Park, an unmarked side path caught my attention. It felt like a subtle tug inside, telling me to follow it. At the end stood a tree, its roots exposed like open hands. I had come looking for flowers and found something that has lasted far longer than any blossom.

Prayer Rocks

In the vast quiet of Utah, something nudged me away from an obvious natural wonder and toward a simple rock formation off to the side, what I later called Prayer Rocks. I don’t know why I walked that way. I only know I felt drawn, gently and unmistakably. Sometimes God doesn’t speak through miracles. Sometimes He speaks through curiosity.

The Parting Storm

One evening in Nebraska, alone in a parking lot as a storm gathered, I whispered without thinking: Lord, if You could make this storm go away, I’d be grateful.” The moment those words left my mouth, the storm split and slid around me. The sky above cleared. The stars appeared. I’ve never forgotten that stillness. Grace doesn’t always arrive with fanfare. Sometimes it is just a parting in the clouds.

There were other moments too: a message at the Air Zoo, a strange push that kept me safe during a bicycle accident, and a New Year’s prayer that did not go unheard. None of them were loud. Each one was a small thread pulling me closer.

What Is God’s Plan?

People ask this with a kind of heaviness. But the answer that has settled in my heart is simple:

Love one another. Everything else will unfold in its time.

For a long time, I only knew of God. Through quiet nudges and unexpected moments, I began to truly know Him. That is why I wanted to share this reflection with you. If you have ever wondered whether God sees you, hears you, or walks with you through ordinary days, I hope these words remind you that you are not alone. You never have been.

This reflection is adapted from my book, A Gentle Spirit Within, where I share more of the stories behind these moments: the tree, the desert, and the quiet ways God revealed His presence in everyday life. If this message touched your heart, I invite you to continue the journey with me inside the pages of A Gentle Spirit Within.
